AVW Sponsors Chicago Serbian Film Festival

Lights! Camera! Action!

AVW Equipment is a proud sponsor of the upcoming Chicago Serbian Film Festival taking place from December 5 to 7 at the AMC Dine-In Rosemont 12 at Rosemont, Illinois.

The 12th annual event celebrates the best in contemporary Serbian cinema and will open with Sedef Magla starring actor Nebojša Dugalić. More than a dozen films will be screened – many which have received awards at past festivals – and includes comedies, documentaries, dramas, and more. English subtitles will be available.

International filmmakers and actors will be in attendance including Danica Maksimović, Natalya Nogulich, and Miona Marković. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in after-screening Q&A sessions.

The Second Serbian Capital

It’s an exciting event for the local Serbian community in Chicago, which is home to one of the largest Serbian communities in the world. It’s estimated there are between 50,000 and 190,000 people of Serbian descent or related ancestry in the Chicago area with sizable communities in Cleveland, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and New York City. According to Go Speak Serbian, there are more Serbs living in Chicago than Novi Sad, the second-largest city in Serbia.

Like film, food is also a major staple of Serbian culture and Serbian chefs are leaving their mark on the city’s rich culinary scene. Ambar Chicago, a D.C. based chain known for elevated Balkan cuisine, recently opened in the River North neighborhood.
